Using two Coke cans cans, some steel wool, and a couple tablespoons of Methyl Alcohol, I made a highly portable camping stove capable of boiling water. The Methyl Alcohol cost me $1.19 for 12 fl. oz.; A lot less then a real camping stove. I made a (very crappy) stand out of an old hanger and boiled two cups of water. Two tablespoons of the alcohol lasted much longer then I though as was plenty to get the water up to the right temp. I would rather put something other than steel wool inside that would hold the liquid better, much like a Zippo's interior but that would have cost more money.
