Improv Everywhere, only in select cities.

This weekend I, along with KORe and JustinLL, attended my first (and California's first) Improv Everywhere social experiment. It required a trip down to San Francisco's Dolores Park. If you are familiar with the Improv Everywhere crowd then you have some idea what is involved in being an "agent" in an I.E. "mission". For everyone else here is the breakdown. According to the I.E. site,
"Improv Everywhere causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 70 missions involving thousands of undercover agents. The group is based in New York City."
The I.E. group has pulled off stunts such as hundreds of people freezing at once in Grand Central Station, slow motion Home Depot shopping, and pants off subway rides. The fun part about these social scenes is the reaction of the bystanders who are not involved, and have no idea what is going on.
This brings us to the event this past weekend. The experiment was mp3 based. Agents downloaded a 45 minute mp3 track ahead of time and loaded it on to their portable mp3 player of choice. An Atomic clock was posted to allow everyone to synchronize watches and at 2pm we all press play. What happened next was a flurry of shouting, thumb wrestling, approaching strangers, hugging inanimate objects, on the run geometry, jumping, high-fives, umbrella spinning, and one Epic Battle fought with balloons. Its very hard to explain what went on in those 45 minutes, the surrounding crowd told me they thought it was amazing to watch, the rest of you will have to wait for the video, due to be compiled in a couple weeks.
For now, here is a few shots of the event.

The social aspect of this event was a little odd because at the same time you are interacting with so many people, you are not really interacting at all, just following directions of a voice that you all seem to hear. I suppose that is the plight of a single piece of a much bigger machine. JustinLL remarked, "The problem with taking part in someone else's thing is that it makes it really hard for me to be the center of attention."

I did say something along those lines, because, just as the rest of the rocks with whom I roll, I like to lead, not follow. Still, I maintain, Street Theatre is the only theatre.

Glad to have participated with you and KORe.

Cheers,
--Justin

It looks like I missed out. I say we do the Baghdad Mp3 Experiment. It should be more tumultuous. Kore looks funny with no facial hair. He looks younger and less Hard.
